STOP WORRYING SO MUCH! Weekly intention

Inspired by my life and the yoga classes I teach, I want to share something with you. Every Monday I will share my intention of the week with you, so that together we can remind ourselves to think more positively and not let negative judgement ruin our fun and joy. Today is the New Moon, a wonderful time to set positive intentions for the month to come. Join me.

I often work with intention setting in my yoga classes and my personal yoga practice. I’ve found that when I set a positive intention, a focus, in my own yoga practice the breath and physical positions get a deeper meaning. The physical practice of yoga is designed to release blockages and built up tension in the body, and not just the physical kind but also the mental and emotional stuff. Yoga is designed to free this energy, so that we can spend it in a positive and constructive way. When these blockages are released, there can be feelings and emotions surfacing. This is because everything is energy, and when something’s been stuck and it is suddenly freed, it needs an outlet. And it’s important that we give it one. So, sometimes during a yoga class, it’s not uncommon to experience emotions like frustration, anger, sadness or worry. But this is not a bad thing, it’s GOOD, as long as we know how to deal with it and release it. I always find enormous release in my exhales. Exhaling all that is stuck out of my body, it feels so good and freeing. And then to replace that freed-up space with something positive is where the intention comes in. If I’ve taken just a moment in the beginning of my practice to ground myself, close my eyes, and get real for a moment on what’s going on in my life right now, that can guide me to find my intention. So throughout my practice, I exhale out all the negativity, all the stuff that is stuck, and I inhale and remind myself of what is important and what is possible, of my intention. Not only does this feel good, it rewires the brain after a while and creates a habit of recognizing the negativity when it arrives and replacing it with something good that will actually serve your higher good. The more we can practice this, not just on the yoga mat but in everyday life, the more natural it will become. This is also what I teach in my yoga classes.

So, this past week the overall theme I’ve been focusing on, in class as well as my own practice, is letting go of worrying. I’ve found that the past weeks for me has been quite intense, with a few big things going on in my life and a few major choices that I’ve had to make. In the face of these challenges I’ve found myself worrying A LOT. And then I had this epiphany; why do we spend SO much time worrying all the time? And has worrying about something ever really helped me or anyone? Has it ever actually solved a problem? NO! The thing with worrying is that it’s a total waste of time. It just steals our energy and peace, deprives us of sleep, and is totally unhelpful because it just leaves us feeling energy deprived, burnt out and in constant doubt. And it doesn’t help us make good decisions either, because worry is just another expression of fear, and making decisions based in fear never brings us all the good things that we actually long for and desire. Wouldn't you rather feel vibrant, happy and full of trust in yourself? I sure know I would.

There’s a quote that says “Worrying is like saying little prayers for all the things you don’t want”. I don’t know who wrote it, but I just love it. It’s so true! So, we want to replace those prayers, those intentions, with GOOD ones, right? We want to say little prayers for all the things we do want!

In the spirit of this, I offer you these intentions for the coming week. Pick one that really resonates with you, or make a combination:

I am free of worrying!

I free myself of worrying, all is well in my world!

I am free!

Everything is gonna be ok!

Everything is good, I am free of worry!

I trust myself, and there is nothing to worry about!

I want to inspire you to take a short meditation when you’ve found your intention, and just sit with it for a few minutes. You can set a timer on your phone, close your eyes, and repeat your intention inwardly. Let it really resonate in you and observe the shift, how it feels. Then for the next week, whenever you catch yourself thinking negative thoughts or worrying about something, anything, immediately repeat the intention in your head, as many times as you can. If possible, close your eyes, exhale out the worry and inhale into your positive mantra. Do this for a whole week.

And remember this: worrying has never made anyone happy and at peace, it’s as simple as that. It’s easy to think that worrying gives you some sort of control of the future, but it DOESN’T. That’s a false concept. The only thing it does is to make you question yourself and everything you do and make you miserable. And you deserve to be happy! You deserve to feel empowered and at peace and excited about your life and your decisions!

So, try this, for a week, and next week I will share a new intention and mantra! Together we will change the way we feel and operate in this world, and together we will experience peace, love and joy! Life is too short for anything else!

Stay in your power!

Eternal love,

PS: Here's a beautiful affirmation from Louise Hay if you need a little extra help finding your intention:

"In the infinity of life where I am, all is perfect, whole and complete.

My life is ever new.

Each moment of my life is new and fresh and vital.

I use my affirmative thinking to create exactly what I want.

This is a new day. I am a new me.

My new world is a reflection of my new thinking.

It is a joy and a delight to plant new seeds, for I know these seeds will become my new experiences.

All is well in my world!"
